The story: Inola quarterback Jay Baker passed for one touchdown and ran for another, Muskogee receiver Joe Combs had six catches for 114 yards and one TD, and Sand Springs’ Delvin Jordan dominated defensively as the East won for the only the second time in the series in eight years. Jordan’s fumble recovery set up a 1-yard run by B.J. Bradbury for the game’s first score and the East tacked on two passing TDs in the second quarter to lead 21-0. The West finally got on the board with a 2-yard run by Christopher Friday of OKC Douglass. Baker’s 1-yard pass to Cushing’s England Honeybuss gave the East 14-0 lead and McAlester’s Braden Parler threw 24 yards to Combs to make it 21-0. Parker went 7-for-8 through the air for 100 yards. Baker, the game’s leading rusher with 32 yards, vaulted a defender on a 12-yard run to the West 1 in the fourth quarter and scored from there two plays later tio round out the scoring with 2:19 left. Top performers: Jordan, who signed with Pittsburg State, recovered a fumble, forced another and made two key plays in the third quarter. On third-and-1 from the East 5, he dropped Friday for a 3-yard loss and the West threw incomplete on fourth down. On fourth down in the next series, Jordan stopped Carl Albert’s slick option quarterback, Johnny Bizzell, a yard short of the first-down marker at the East 13. Bradbury was 7-for-16 passing for 106 yards to go with his rushing TD. Bixby’s Nic Swanson had five catches for 70 yards. Noteworthy: Debra and Damon Glass, parents of late Sallisaw football player Clay Glass, were presented an All-State jersey before kickoff. Glass, the District 4A-4 defensive player of the year, was chosen to play in the game but was killed in February in an ATV accident. … West defensive lineman Sir-Ryan Royal of Lawton MacArthur slammed his helmet down and had to be restrained by teammates after officials ejected him in the second quarter. … Dale Condict, who has guided Wagoner to three consecutive Class 4A state titles, was named state football coach of the year by the Oklahoma Coaches Association.
