It took Inola only a couple of innings to knock off the rust. After that, it was all Lady Horns. Led by Jamie Burke, Inola lit Sallisaw up for 24 hits, cruising to a 19-0 victory at home in a scrimmage on Thursday afternoon. Burke went an impressive 6-for-6 at the plate, batting in seven runs in the process. She tallied four singles and two doubles and surprisingly didn’t score a run. Lacey Stamper was the next highest hitter for the Lady Horns with four hits, while Macy Hutchinson, Lillie Walker, Avery Cosper and Allison McGowan each had three. Burke got the scoring started in the third inning, singling on a line drive to leftfield to score Stamper. Baylee Wiginton and Hutchinson pushed Inola’s lead to 3-0 shortly after, reaching home on a single from McGowan. The Lady Horns continued their run in the fourth, putting up six more runs to put the game out of reach. Hutchinson singled in Amelia Danker, and she was brought home soon after alongside Stamper on a Burke double to centerfield. Walker followed up with a double of her own to center, scoring Wiginton. Madi Roberts scored on an RBI groundout courtesy of McGowan, and Savanna Cosper finished off the inning with a single, scoring Megan Trollinger to bring the score to 9-0. Inola cooled off a bit in the fifth inning, managing only one run on a passed ball, but things picked back up in the sixth. Savanna Cosper crossed home plate when Hutchinson grounded into a fielder’s choice, and a Burke single allowed Danker to tack on one more run, making it 12-0 before the end of the inning. McGowan took advantage of a third-baseman error on a Danker groundball to score the first run of the seventh, and Burke brought in two more runs with a fly-ball double to leftfield. The Lady Horns were held scoreless in the eighth, but they managed four more runs in the ninth to cap off the dominating win. Stamper scored on a sacrifice fly from Burke, Walker followed with a single to centerfield, scoring Destiny Massey. Avery Cosper tacked on another run on an error by a rightfielder, and Keaton Ellis finished things off with a single to rightfield, bringing McGowan home. Walker earned the win on the mound, striking out nine while allowing no hits through six innings. Fifty of her 69 pitches resulted in strikes. Hutchinson also saw time in the circle, striking out two while surrendering two hits in four innings. The losing pitcher threw nine innings, allowing 24 hits and 12 earned runs while striking out seven Lady Horns batters. Inola returns to the diamond on Monday against Edmond North and Tahlequah at 10 a.m. and noon, respectively, in the Firelake Festival in Shawnee.
